Discipleship Thoughts ... Dr. Byerly

Freedom is a wonderful, yet dangerous thing. I love the freedom to choose, but the danger comes when my freedom leads me to make bad choices.

I mention this as a reminder that the little choices we make today will impact our lives tomorrow. So how are you doing in freely making those insignificant little decisions today? I guarantee they will either bless you today or destroy you tomorrow.

The Bible says in Galatians 6:7-8, “A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Think of it this way…If I make a good moral choice today when I am tempted, it will one day pay huge dividends. It may seem hard to take the high road today, but your life will be blessed tomorrow. Many people wonder why they are in such a mess, but those bad little decisions finally catch up with them.

You can choose to meet God daily in Bible reading and prayer, or you can choose to be too busy. You can choose to gather as the body of Christ to worship God, or you can choose self-centered options. You can study God’s Word in a Sunday School or Life University class, or you can spend your time relaxing in front of the TV.

Little decisions! They seem so simple and feel right at the time. In the end, they will either bring us closer to God or leave us spiritually empty. I encourage you to choose the “Royal Highway” in 2008. The way is narrower. It often twists. It will require faith, but we have a Spiritual Guide, Jesus Christ, to lead us.

The 15th Century mystic, Thomas a Kempis said it so well, "Without the Way, there is no going, Without the Truth, there is no knowing, Without the Life, there is no living." Let Christ be at the center of your decisions.

I love watching you grow in Christ!
